RELAXATION TECHNIQUES
SPENDING TIME OUTDOORS
Spending 20 minutes outside a day can restore focus, make you less irritated, lower the risk of developing a disease or disorder, boost your immune, reduce levels of stress and can give you an energy boost!
HOW????
Studies have shown and have proven that 20 minutes outside a day reduces a persons level of cortisol (stress hormone)by 21%. this happens because the brain regulates the body's stress response, therefore is stimulated to male the individual feel relaxed and slows their heart rate.
SWINGING
Studies have been done that prove that swinging is natural stimulation for the vestibular system. The vestibular system is a sensory system that sends our brain messages about motion, head position and spatial orientation. This is so we can keep our balance and stabilise our body during movement.
The vestibular system can impact their stress, sleep and cognition. By stimulating the vestibular system, it prevents a vestibular lesion which prevents the possibility of it increasing the chance of that individual to develop impairment in spatial memory, depression, anxiety, postural incoordination and behavioural changes (mood swings). This information and data was found in the article: Vestibular Stimulation for Stress Management in Students, from the website: Journal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research (PMC).
MUSIC
Listening to music is also known to calm people down and make an environment more enjoyable. This is why my design has the macrame around the edges so you can attach a speaker to it.
ERGONOMICS OF THE DESIGN
By researching ergonomics for laying down I have ensured that my design allows a person to lay in the correct position to support them. By laying down with a pillow under your neck and a pillow underneath your knees it supports all of the body and prevents an individual from having waking up with sore spots. When half sitting up it is essential to keep your knees bent and in line with your body, this supports the body and spine.
